Newcastle is the fifth airport to have selected the AirportGateway solution to support their move to a paperless application process, in an effort maximise on their resources and efficiency. The team at Newcastle are keen to reduce rejection rates, enhance security and improve the turnaround of their ID pass applications. AirportGateway has already helped other clients to reduce rejection rates from 60% to less than 10%, by implementing the fully integrated online system. Newcastle Airport is the 10th busiest airport in the United Kingdom, and the 2nd busiest airport in Northern England. In 2016 Newcastle airport reported to have had 4,558,000 passengers, indicating a strong 6% growth on 2015. The airport supports flights to 80 direct destinations, with some of their busiest routes include Heathrow, Amsterdam, and Dubai; while popular carriers range from British Airways to Emirates and easyJet.
With such an impressive output, the airport supports 3,200 jobs on site and further 4,600 across the region, contributing to an influx of ID pass applications. Newcastle currently processes 10,000 temporary and full airside passes per year, as well as 2,500 temporary and full vehicle passes. With high application volumes, the management team hope to increase turn-around times in an effort to improve airline and user satisfaction, as well as operational efficiency.
